a shortage of nursing educators. Many nursing programs have a waiting list, but
the wait is worth it. Experienced nurse will be in great demand in the years to
come. Here is how to apply to a nursing school:
- The most important thing to do before you apply to any nursing program or
school is to make sure it's accredited by the National League for Nursing
Accrediting Commission. Not all schools are accredited, and you can risk
delaying your licensing process.
- Before you become a nurse, you want to become first become a certified nursing
assistant. This requires a short study and is usually offered in community
colleges. Becoming an assistant will give you the advantage to being accepted in
a nursing program. In fact a lot of nursing programs now require you to become a
nursing assistant first.
- Decide what type of nurse you want to become. There are many types of nurses
out there and each requires unique education. For example, a registered nurse
has more choices regarding education. In previous years, hospitals offered a
three year course where nurses worked and lived in the hospital for their
nursing program. Today, you can apply for two year associate degree programs.
- Decide what course of study you want to take. There are two popular courses
namely the Associate Degree Nurse and the Bachelor of Science Nurse. The
Associate Degree Nurse focuses on the practical explanations and is a two year
program. While the Bachelor of Science Nurse expands into theoretical realms and
is typically a four year program. Keep in mind that institutions pay on
experience and education. For professional advancement, the Bachelor of Science
Nurse is required.
- Check for each university's prerequisites. Each university is different, but
most require you to have studied English, Mathematics, and one subject in
science. Some may require a First Aid Certificate. It's important for you to
know what each university requires.
